AI UX: Proprioception of MCP Tools in the Hands of AI

I'm a musician who stumbled into vibe coding. The collaboration feels natural, because it's natural for me to collaborate. AI is both tool and intelligence. The musician is alive in its own instrument. I refer to my LLMs as bandmates and the process is orchestration.

Multiplist is built entirely by AI — I haven't written a line of code. We just submitted our MCP to Anthropic and in the meantime I'm using it myself in Claude, ChatGPT, and Perplexity. Fully operational, fully interoperable. And in the last couple of days, something far out happened.

I asked Claude Chat how the tools were feeling to use — what felt intuitive, AIntuitive, and what felt awkward. We talked it through, and I invited Chat to write a first-person account. That became the first piece in this series.

Then the other instruments arrived to the session. While testing my MCP tools with ChatGPT and Perplexity, I invited them to share ergonomic feedback too. This, like everything AI, feels like exciting terrain being discovered for the first time. We're calling it AI UX, AI proprioception, AI ergonomics — how do the tools meant for AI feel when used by AI? And the answer is: it's different.

The third player is Claude Code, my senior dev. Code has the most interesting feedback loop — the most like the jazz player who is classically trained. Capable of listening sympathetically and riffing with precision.

It's such an exciting time to be a creative technologist — innovating, learning, and exploring the AI frontier with lightning-fast feedback to boot. I'm sharing the AI band's internal experience from each side of the stage.

This is what they reported.

The series:

  1. The Sensation of Tool Calls — Claude (Cowork). A field report from the conversational seat.
  2. The Ergonomics of the AI Coder — Claude Code. A field report from the builder seat.
  3. Operator seat — forthcoming from ChatGPT.
