How to Export One AI Conversation with the Multiplist Chrome Extension

Direct answer: Open the conversation you want to keep, use the Multiplist Chrome extension's Quick Exports, and choose Markdown or HTML. Reopen the downloaded file and check the useful passage. You can keep the file on your computer or separately save selected work to your Multiplist vault for reuse with connected assistants.

You have one good conversation: a workshop outline, a piece of writing, or a coding discussion you want to return to. You don't need to download your entire account to keep that work.

Open the Multiplist Chrome extension listing. The released extension supports active conversations on Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini, among other listed sites. This guide starts with Claude in desktop Chrome. It does not cover local Cowork sessions, a terminal conversation or mobile-app capture.

Multiplist gives you a useful starting point: a portable copy of the conversation. Its vault is an optional next step when you want chosen sources available to connected AI tools. Downloading a file and saving it to a hosted vault are separate actions.

# Start with one conversation worth keeping

For a simple practice run, use a short conversation without confidential information. Imagine a fictional Claude chat called Workshop opening: you ask for three introductions, refine the second, and choose a final paragraph.

The useful result is a file you can reopen and search for that paragraph, with the discussion around it. This is an illustrative practice exercise, not a claim that a new live export was recorded for this article.

Keep the exported transcript as your reference. If you want to edit the chosen introduction, make a separate working note so your revisions don't replace the original discussion.

# Export the active chat in five steps

# 1. Open the extension in desktop Chrome

Install from the Chrome Web Store listing if you haven't already. Review the permissions before accepting them. On a managed work or school computer, your organization may restrict extensions.

Open the extension from Chrome's toolbar. If its icon is hidden, use the Extensions menu and pin it if you want easier access next time. Google's extension instructions

# 2. Open the exact conversation

In the same browser, sign in to Claude and open the chat you want to save. Let the conversation load before exporting. Open Multiplist's Chrome popup and look for Active Claude session detected. Use Quick Exports in that popup for a local file; the floating in-page Export Chat button follows the vault-saving path.

Use a short chat for your first check. For longer conversations, inspect the beginning and end of the downloaded result rather than assuming every message, edited branch, attachment or tool result was captured.

# 3. Choose what you need to keep

The extension includes an Include Thinking & Tool Calls option. Review it before exporting, especially when you plan to share the file. Available captured content varies with the source page; the option does not promise access to hidden model reasoning or every underlying tool response.

A conversation can contain private information in your prompts, generated answers and tool output. Choose an appropriate destination for the file and inspect it before sharing.

# 4. Choose a Quick Export format

Start with Markdown for a reusable text copy, or HTML for a browser-readable version.

OptionUseful when you want to…
MarkdownRead, edit or reuse the transcript in a text editor or notes app
HTMLOpen a standalone styled reader in your browser
TextKeep a plain-text copy
JSONRetain structured data for a compatible technical workflow
Copy MDCopy Markdown to the clipboard instead of downloading a file
PDF DocDownload a print view, then open it and save as PDF through your browser's print dialog

The PDF route is worth noting: the reviewed version downloads a print-view HTML file first, rather than immediately producing a finished PDF. The public listing describes the available formats, while the Multiplist homepage shows the extension interface.

# 5. Reopen the result

The Markdown download uses a name such as multiplist-workshop-opening.md. Open it in a text editor or Markdown-capable notes app. Its header includes the title, source platform, export date and original URL; the export date is not necessarily the date of the conversation. For HTML, open the saved file in your browser. Then check:

A link or mention of an attachment is not the attachment itself. Save important original files separately. If a needed passage is missing, return to the source conversation rather than asking an AI to reconstruct it from memory.

For the workshop exercise, search the file for a distinctive phrase in your chosen introduction. Once you can find it with its surrounding discussion, you have a useful copy to carry forward.

# Keep a file, or make it available through your vault

You can stop at the downloaded file. There is no need to set up an AI connector just to read Markdown or HTML.

If you want to retrieve the conversation in later AI work, use the extension's separate vault-saving workflow after pairing with your Multiplist account. Confirm that the source is present in the vault before asking a connected assistant to find it. Connecting an assistant still requires sign-in, authorization and enabling its tools where you work; it does not automatically collect your past chats.

Multiplist's getting-started guide covers the broader workflow. Saving to the vault involves Multiplist's hosted service and may involve AI processing for extraction, as described in the privacy policy. Do not treat a local file export and a cloud save as having identical data handling.

# When a native option is enough

If you only need to revisit your own chat, the provider's history may already meet your need. If someone else needs to view it, a native shared link can be simpler than sending a file. Check its audience first.

Claude's shared chat is a snapshot. Personal-account links can be viewed by anyone who has the link; Team and Enterprise sharing is restricted to the organization. Uploaded files themselves and raw MCP tool-call data are not included in that snapshot. Claude sharing guidance

ChatGPT also supports shared links. Personal-account conversation links are snapshots, while managed-workspace links have different membership and update rules. Review the sharing preview and workspace restrictions. OpenAI sharing guidance

Choose the extension when you want a file you can keep and inspect. Choose an account export when you want a broader archive: see our guides to exporting Claude history and exporting ChatGPT history.

A one-time export preserves a copy at that point. New messages require another export or save; this workflow does not synchronize future conversations or restore native chat history in another account.

Extension listing and released v1.0.7 interface, plus Google, Anthropic and OpenAI guidance, checked October 31, 2026. No new live conversation capture was performed for this guide.

Start with the conversation you already know you need. Getting one useful piece of work back is enough for a first step.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I export just one Claude conversation?

Yes. Open the conversation on Claude's website in desktop Chrome, open the Multiplist extension, confirm it detects the active session, and choose a Quick Export format. Reopen the downloaded file and check the messages you need.

Do I need a Multiplist vault to download a chat?

The extension's file exports work separately from vault pairing. You can keep the downloaded file locally; saving selected work to a Multiplist vault is a separate option.

Should I choose Markdown or HTML?

Choose Markdown for a text file you can edit or use in a notes app. Choose HTML for a standalone browser-readable copy. Check the result, especially code, links and attachments.

Does installing the extension export every previous chat?

No. This workflow captures the active conversation you choose. It does not automatically export your whole account or keep future messages synchronized.

Does PDF Doc download a finished PDF?

In the reviewed version, PDF Doc downloads a print-view HTML file. Open that file and use the browser's print dialog to save it as a PDF.
